Cheltenham based band The Strays have had a busy couple of months. After a non-stop summer that saw the group win Best Band at the Sounds of the Cotswolds Festival, and the Tadstock Battle of the Bands competition, they have a busy end of the year planned.

The band recently released a new single “Go Go Boy”, with the music video being filmed at the Cheltenham Playhouse. Lead singer Estelle Chamberlain explained the band’s unique style and how they enjoy playing in their hometown.

She said: “We’re garage rock and roll in that we sort of fit somewhere between the old rock and newer pop stuff. But we don’t really stick to any genre.

“We like to keep it local and it’s so beautiful inside the Playhouse. We got 15 guys down to just dance for our video. You can’t go wrong when you get some mates to help out!”

The Strays will be heading out of Gloucestershire for a couple of shows however, as they’re supporting star of Channel 4’s “The Undateables” Daniel Wakeford on his UK tour.

“We supported Daniel at his gig at the Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham last year and got on really well with him and his team, so he asked us to support him in Oxford and Leicester.”

“If you’ve never seen him before, he’s such a great performer and brings a lot of great energy to the stage. It’s so much fun supporting him.”

The band have an incredibly packed schedule coming up. Alongside their regular gigs at local venues and supporting Daniel Wakeford, they'll also be supporting Eddie and the Hot Rods on their retirement tour.

Together with the usual gigging that comes with being in a band, The Strays have also been involved in another interesting side project.

Estelle explained: “It’s called ‘When We Played — Garage Band Card game’ and it’s a bit like Dungeons and Dragons but for music fans.

“We saw their Kickstarter online and donated. Then our drummer Gary got in touch with them and we got included from there.”

In amongst all of this, Estelle is somehow finding time to sit down and write music.

She said: “We’ve got loads of gigs booked in up until Christmas, and we’re in the process of writing new songs. We’ll be recording them in April and then hopefully releasing the album later next year.”
