Denim and more denim
The high street is awash with denim, which never seems to go out of style. There are subtle differences though with these latest designs. Jackets are short and fitted, whilst jeans can be found with high waists, which are good for elongating the legs. Legs are often slim cuts, but there are still some flares to be found. Dresses, blouses and even handbags are starting to appear in denim.

Double denim used to be a ‘no no’, but stylists are saying you are on trend if you sport denim top and bottom nowadays. There are even multiple style waistcoats – long or short, sleeved or sleeveless. You will notice a lot of embroidery on many items, some discreet and some very obvious. Beware a huge butterfly, which initially might look cute and original, but can be less so after a few wears.

Blazers
Blazers are back. Not necessarily the old, traditional style double-breasted blazer look, although there are some more fitted versions of that style knocking about. Trendy blazers come in a variety of shapes and bold colours this spring – some are even made with the popular cold shoulder look. Evening glitter blazers make a bold statement, and others can be easily dressed up or down for the office with a nice shirt or for more casual wear on the weekends.

Trouser suits
Trouser suits, just like the traditional blazer, are back but here they are far more relaxed in the way they fit – many look more like comfortable sportswear. Patterns and bold colours are once again popular, especially tropical and animal prints. They can, of course, be worn as separates depending on the design and pattern, so not a bad item to invest in.

Wrap dresses
Always a favourite, wrap dresses are comfortable, stylish and easy to wear. Just like the little black dress, a good wrap dress is an investment piece and is guaranteed to give you a good shape. Most high street shops offer a superb range of these dresses with some beautiful designs, and it’s easy to go from day to evening with a little extra jewellery and some ‘killer’ heels.

Mules
Gucci started this popular trend with a fur-lined pair of mules and the high street has jumped on the Gucci bandwagon. There are just so many styles to tempt you, from simple flats in leather, canvas or suede, to high heeled mules and many dressy evening mules.

They’re tricky to wear with tights or stockings as you tend to slip in them, so sometimes it takes a while to get used to them. I suggest wearing them around the house to get the feel of them first. One word of caution – just like flip flops, they are hazardous to drive in. I often scratch the soles of my shoes before I wear them out to avoid slipping.

If mules are not for you, you’ll find Chanel style two-toned court shoes everywhere, often in the famous beige and black. These are certainly a classy look that stands the test of time.
