The wild, wild west

Forget the ‘The Wild Bunch’ or Will Smith and Kevin Kline. I’m not talking cowboys on a mission to save their Western world from collapse, bandits on a bank robbery or villains loose on a runaway train. It’s not so much the narrative that’s the focus of this month’s trend, rather the attire in which they did it. Watch out, Western is back and for 2018, it’s here to stay.

Subtle ways to work this trend into your wardrobe
Now easy cowgirl, holster that Smith and Wesson if going in all guns blazing isn’t your style; there are subtle ways to work this trend into your wardrobe. The western takeover swept the SS18 runways in a blaze of glory, showcasing the new – and improved – way to wear the all-American outfit; think more Rodeo Drive than actual Rodeo.

My personal prefer-ence of designer for this, and general all round take on trends, is Gucci. Their dusty pink, navy and white paisley silk satin dress (right) is a showstopper with its western detailing, blush collar and… a price tag of $4900. Not exactly a dress you could pick up on the high street, but a dress, nevertheless, that epitomises this very trend to a T.

Get ranch-ready in no time
For more of high end, high street buy in, check out Hicks & Brown’s collection of accessories, which includes the Midnight Cow Hide Clutch and Flamingo Cow Hide Belt (below). Both are available in various popping colourways that were practically made for this SS18 trend, and at £45 each they’re a steal of summer style. Something as simple as adding a gold buckle belt with a pop of colour to your trusty pair of jeans or carrying a clutch with that ‘yeeha’ factor will help you get ranch-ready in no time.

Another style step in the right direction is a welcome F word, after ‘fashion’ of course, and that is fringing. Originating in the wild, wild west it sashayed down last year’s SS18 catwalks with a fun flare, daring you to take it on and be bold this summer. Fringe trims swung from the hems of dresses, jackets and cardigans, all styled with belts and bags alike, shimmying down the runway and heel-toeing it in true western fashion was the classic cowboy boot. Think rich leather and a strong bohemian vibe, teamed with midi dresses for a fusion of romantic wild west allure and not a Daisy Duke in sight.

Let your inner cowgirl run wild
Letting your inner cowgirl run wild doesn’t have to be a show down – be a showstopper in your own take on the ‘Wild, Wild West’. After all, these boots were made for walking… right?
