Loud and proud

Spring may have sprung, but summer fashion is shining like the sun! This season’s trends are alive with playful, popping colour to give us a refresh in time for summer.

Saturated shades are being paired with clashing contrasts, making more of a fashion-frenzy, than a fashion faux pas. Bold shades of yellow, purple and red are being styled with hues of lilacs, reds, whites and lime greens. A faux pas one might say, others would venture onto the wild side of these impactful combinations. Charged with energetic yet exotic appeal.

Purple takes centre stage for a multi-working trend

As last month’s column was all about those softer shades, July takes on a much bolder approach. These SS18 trends have taken two opposed directions, one with a strong, vibrant palette and the other consisting of pastel tones on lighter, less daring garments. This year’s Pantone of the year has to be purple. Whether that be in the form of a lighter lilac or ultra violet, purple takes centre stage for a multi-working trend.

Keep it casual with an oversized shirt in an eye-catching shade that is bound to receive the right type of attention. The Cotton Poplin from Burford-based shirt maker The Oxford Shirt Company will brighten up any outfit and at £59.95, is an affordable seasonal staple.

A welcome contribution to any accessory drawer

A pop of pink is a welcome contribution to any accessory drawer and the Kedleston watch from Morris Richardson (watch this space) with neon pink strap will catch the glimmer of a passer by with its commanding colour. This arm candy will set you back £179, which, for a Swiss made quartz movement with a scratch resistant and sapphire crystal glass face, is a steal!

Speaking of glimmer, the shine on the Lemon Quartz Iris ring from up and coming jewellery brand Renne jewellery, is its own little piece of sunshine. Its fresh energizing tone of yellow gives a lemon zest to, not only the summer season, but any season. It seems yellow’s comeback for 2018 is strictly connected to purple, working together as each other’s main complementary colours. At £260, this particular stone not only looks good, but is supposed to encourage optimism and creativity. Who doesn’t need either of those in their lives?

So many ways to stand out this summer

This trend is here to lift our spirits in, a sometimes overcast, summer sky. Whatever your preferred colour, the catwalks of SS18 had it in spades. Whether that be in the form of Tom Ford’s 80s-inspired power shoulder jacket in a paint-box palette, Marc Jacob’s oversized green sweater with a tube skirt of the same tone, or Calvin Klein’s yellow trousers, there are so many ways to stand out this summer. However you decide to make your daring debut, make sure you stand out loud, and proud.
