There were goals galore at Ruardean Hill Rangers in the County League but unfortunately for the home side they ended up on the wrong end of a 5-4 scoreline.

Early-season pace-setters Lebeq United were the visitors but it was Rangers who took a very early lead when Shaun Tingle latched onto a poor back pass.

Lebeq were soon level however through Fabian McCarthy and they went ahead on 15 minutes when James Hall’s free-kick thundered into the Rangers net.

Rangers pulled it back to all square on the half hour when Luke Johnson’s shot rebounded to Stuart Cornwell-Boote to hammer home but the visitors were ahead again when Steve Combs deflected the ball past his own keeper.

Goals by Cameron Brown and Tom Collett made it 5-2 but Rangers never gave up. Luke Johnson chipped the keeper to pull a goal back and a brilliant overhead kick from Stuart Cornwell-Boote made it 5-4.

Second-placed Stonehouse Town are just a point behind unbeaten Lebeq after making it five league wins in a row with a 2-1 win at home to Gala Wilton.

They went ahead in the 19th minute after they were awarded a free-kick on the left side on the halfway line. It was taken by Tom Palmer who swept the ball to the far side of the Gala 18-yard box where Dan Martin picked it up and drove a cracking low shot across Gala keeper Lewis Skyers and into the far corner.

The visitors retaliated and a long ball up to Dorian Colling saw the striker hit a good shot on goal but it went straight to Adam Clark. Clark then pushed away a Danny Knight header and a few minutes later a good through ball from Colling gave Jay Dare a chance but Clark snatched the ball from his toe.

Gala had another chance on 51 minutes when a well worked ball across goal found Danny Knight but he shot wide and four minutes later Stonehouse increased their lead when Callum Hooke worked his way down the left and sent the ball into the box and Luke Soule turned and knocked the ball past Skyers.

Gala continued to press with Colling firing over the bar. At the other end Luke Soule had a great chance to make it 3-0 but with a clear sight of goal saw his shot well saved.

Gala were then awarded a penalty late on when Peter Boyle was brought down but Charlie Webb’s spot-kick was saved by Clark.

There was still time for Gala to get on the scoresheet however when a break down the left saw a good shot on goal deflected by Tom Palmer leaving Clark no chance.

Frampton United remain in third place after winning 2-0 at Broadwell Amateurs.

Both goals came in the first 45 minutes with Frampton going ahead after 13 minutes from a corner sent over from the left that found the unmarked Shaun Lawson to head past Jamie Merry.

It was 2-0 after 25 minutes when an inch perfect pass from Manolo Espada found Ryan Vincent who hit the ball over Merry.

The home side did fare a little better in the second half and Liam Thomas went close with a shot that just cleared the bar.

Other results – County League: Wick 0 Patchway T 2. GFA Challenge Trophy, first round: AEK Boco 4 Cam Bulldogs 0; Hardwicke 3 Little Stoke 3 (Hardwick win 4-3 on pens); Henbury 3 Rockleaze R 3 (Henbury win 4-1 on pens).
