A couple of new names have taken on important roles with the Cheltenham Football League ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Ian Nelder-Morgan has taken on the role of fixtures secretary while there is a new referees’ secretary in Martin Pates, who himself is a referee.

“John Hunt has retired from fixtures secretary after 15 years of sterling work,” said Cheltenham League stalwart Ben Hill.

“He took up the position after only two years on the management committee. It’s never easy juggling the fixtures around when the weather turns ugly and games are postponed but John just got on with it.”

Hunt remains on the management committee and Hill said of his successor, who is also secretary of Newton Football Club: “Fair play to him because it’s not an easy job.”

Ian Swales, meanwhile, is retiring as referees’ secretary after three years in the role.

“Being a referee himself he appreciated how important it was for matches to have a qualified official,” added Hill. “He was able to build a network of referees he could call on and, most weeks, all games were covered.”

Swales also stays on the management committee.
