Cirencester Town host Cinderford Town in an eagerly-awaited Gloucestershire derby in Division One South of the Southern League tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).

The home team are looking to bounce back from their first defeat since John Brough took over as their new manager at the start of December – they lost 3-2 at Melksham Town six days ago – and recapture the form that saw them win five games on the trot following his appointment.

Four of those victories were in Division One South and it was a run that took the club back up into the top half of the 20-strong division.

“We’ve won five, drawn two and lost one since I was appointed,” said Brough.

“I’m really pleased with the results, we’ve changed the team quite a bit and hopefully the new players are bedding in.”

Cinderford, like Cirencester, are still in the hunt for a place in the end-of season play-offs although like Cirencester they still have plenty of work to do.

Only the title winners are guaranteed promotion to the Premier Division with the next four teams playing off for the second promotion spot at the end of the campaign.

Ninth-placed Cinderford have the same number of points as Cirencester but are one place better off courtesy of a superior goal difference.

They have also played three games fewer so Cirencester’s supporters will be desperate for a win tomorrow.

Both teams are five points off the play-offs and Brough, a former manager of Cinderford, said ahead of tomorrow’s game: “We know them very well. On the back of a defeat, we want to turn up and try to put in a performance and get three points.

“It won’t be easy because they’ve just beaten Paulton Rovers but we’ll certainly be going for it, it should be an entertaining game.”
