Five goals in 20-minute blitz sees County League leaders Frampton United canter to victory

County League leaders Frampton United started 2020 in the same rich vein of form that they ended the previous year, although their 5-0 win at Broadwell Amateurs was not quite as straightforward as it seems.

That’s because they had to wait until the 70th minute before opening the scoring.

The first half was pretty even though Frampton’s Ryan Vincent hit a tremendous shot from 25 yards that cannoned back off the upright.

The home side were also denied by the woodwork when keeper Aaron Taylor just managed to push Liam Thomas’s effort onto the bar.

On 41 minutes Frampton had the ball in the net after Dunbar latched onto a Fyn Blythe cross but his effort was ruled out for offside. Then just before the break Matt Cook’s thunderous 30-yard drive cannoned back off the crossbar.

Broadwell pressed in the early stages of the second half but it was Frampton who got the all-important first goal 20 minutes from time when a long ball from Nathan Dennis found Ryan Vincent who made space and drove his shot at goal. Keeper Reed got a hand to it but it finished up in the back of the net.

Ethan Dunbar made it 2-0 on 76 minutes and six minutes later substitute Steve Jackson made it 3-0 when he turned in a cross from Ryan Vincent.

A minute later Jackson scored again with Fyn Blythe the provider before Blythe completed the scoring in the final minute with a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Quedgeley Wanderers were another team to enjoy a winning start to the new year, defeating visitors Sharpness 2-1.

The home side attacked right from the off and an early cross from Jordan Rouse found Kyle James-Bryan who shot into the side netting.

Sean Lawson then had a good chance to put Quedgeley ahead in the 24th minute but shot wide and it was the visitors who struck first with Will Lacey’s shot taking a double deflection on its way into the net.

The home side levelled in the 40th minute when Kyle James-Bryan headed in a cross from Ben Didcote and two minutes later the home side were in front when James-Bryan struck a tremendous shot from the edge of the box.

Three goals in the final 12 minutes earned Gala Wilton a 3-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Patchway Town.

Ryan Dobbins, Keiron Mace and Dobbins again had all threatened to open the scoring before Gala got their noses in front in the 78th minute when Dobbins headed home from John Clay’s corner.

Dobbins then became provider for Jay Dare to make it 2-0 and Martin Smith completed the scoring with a deflected shot in the 89th minute.

Other results: Hanham Ath 3 Bromley Heath Utd 2; Henbury 2 Little Stoke 0; Rockleaze R 4 Ruardean Hill R 2; Wick 1 AEK Boco 0.
