Alex Addai will be hoping he gets the chance to inflict more misery on Scunthorpe United when Cheltenham Town travel to Lincolnshire on Saturday.

The popular 26-year-old scored one and then won a penalty as Michael Duff’s men got their 2019/20 League Two campaign up and running with their first win of the season against Scunthorpe way back on 10th August.

Addai went on as a 69th-minute substitute and soon scored Cheltenham’s third before winning the late spot-kick that sent the fans home happy after an impressive 4-1 win.

That goal was one of four that the pacey Addai has scored this season and he remembers the game well.

“It was a good day,” he said. “Hopefully I can do something similar on Saturday.”

Addai has managed just the one start since the turn of the year, however, after serving a three-game ban following his red card at Northampton Town at the end of December.

He missed the games against Newport, Oldham and Walsall and has started just one of the last three – the 1-0 defeat at Crewe.

He was an unused substitute in the 2-1 win over Morecambe on Saturday, a result that took Cheltenham back into the play-off places.

Addai is desperate to play his part as Cheltenham look to cement a place in the top seven and he’s looking forward not only to the trip to Scunthorpe but also the game at Carlisle United three days later.

It’s a close on 340-mile round trip to Scunthorpe and a near 480-mile trek there and back to Carlisle so it’s certainly a lot of travelling.

But that is not something that concerns Addai.

“It’s what we do,” he said. “We train hard all week and these games are a chance to showcase our talents. We want to play.”

Both Scunthorpe (19th) and Carlisle (20th) have lost a lot more games than they have won this season while Cheltenham’s win on Saturday lifted them up to seventh, six points off an automatic promotion spot, although they have played at least one game fewer than all but one of the teams around them.
