Dowty Dynamos threw the Cheltenham League Division One title race wide open with a 1-0 win over long-time leaders Tewkesbury Town on Saturday.

Tewkesbury remain on top but Dynamos have climbed up to third, just four points off the pace and like Tewkesbury with 13 games still to play.

Ryan Attwood got the decisive goal just before half-time, scoring with a low left-footed curling shot from 20 yards.

And Dynamos will be hoping for more of the same from their striker this Saturday when they go head-to-head with Tewkesbury again, although this time Tewkesbury will have home advantage.

“Bishop’s Cleeve have got a few games in hand but we’re in there,” said Dynamos secretary Steve Henley. “After Tewkesbury we’ve still got to play Whaddon, Prestbury twice and Malvern.”

Malvern Vale are back up into second with a 5-4 win over AFC Renegades in the only other match that was played in Division One on Saturday because of the weather.

Malvern Vale are three points adrift of Tewkesbury but have played four games more.

The only game in Division Two saw Gala Wilton Reserves climb into the top three with a 6-0 win over Pittville United while in Division Three the all-conquering FC Lakeside Reserves made it a perfect 10 when they defeated Cheltenham Civil Service 3rds 7-1.

The win – Lakeside’s 10th from 10 games – saw them jump two places to second while Service dropped a place to fourth.

Tewkesbury Athletic remain on top in Division Four but their hold on pole position is more precarious after their 3-0 home defeat by Kempsey Corinthians, who are one of four teams who will go past the leaders if they win all their games in hand.

Three Senior Charity Cup ties were also played with Fintan, Worcester City Royals and Welland Reserves going through to the last eight.

Fintan, of Division Two, produced the result of the day as they thumped Hanley Swan, who play a level above, 5-1.

There was drama in the game between Welland Reserves and Shurdington Rovers with Welland winning a penalty shootout 9-8 after the match had ended 1-1.

And it was tight in the final tie with Worcester City Royals edging home 2-1 against Leckhampton Rovers.
