Just one game beat the weather in the County League on Saturday but it was a decent one because it involved the top two.

Sharpness travelled to Frampton United in a fixture that was reversed and a 2-0 win for Frampton stretched their advantage to four points

Frampton started brightly and Jack Bartman soon saw a shot cleared off the line.

Manolo Espada then weaved his way through the Sharpness defence only to see his shot well saved by keeper Dan Hobbs. The resulting corner saw Nathan Dennis head over from eight yards.

A 30-yard shot from Nathan Dennis was deflected to Jack Bartman but his 25-yard effort was well saved by Hobbs, and then a cross from James Piateck saw an ambitious overhead kick from Bartman fly several yards wide.

Five minutes before the break Sharpness had a great chance to go in front when Craig Mills gave away a penalty but Dan Gayner’s spot-kick was saved by Frampton keeper Aaron Taylor.

Sharpness had another chance just before the break when Fin Small got behind the Frampton defence only to see his cross roll right across the face of the goal with Brad Hewer unable to make any contact.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 53rd minute when Dan Martin went on a fantastic run, weaving past three Sharpness defenders and nutmegging one in the process before calmly slotting the ball through the keeper’s legs to put Frampton ahead.

Frampton, in front of a crowd of 196, made it 2-0 on 61 minutes following a corner by Manolo Espada which was met with a powerful header from Jack Bartman.

Sharpness had a couple of chances in the final 20 minutes with Alex Gayner dragging a shot wide before Jack Higgs headed a chance straight into the arms of Taylor.
