Fairford’s opponents in the Gloucestershire Two North/South play-offs will be Bream.

That’s even though Bream actually finished third in Gloucestershire Two South on points difference behind Ashley Down Old Boys.

“It’s because Bream had a walkover against Kingswood,” explained Brian Flanders, deputy coordinator for the South Western Division organising committee.

“Ashley Down ran up a telephone score against Kingswood but because Bream didn’t actually play them, for the purpose of deciding who plays in the play-offs, that game is removed from the records.

“Once that is done, Bream have a better points difference than Ashley Down which is why they are through to the play-offs.”

Flanders confirmed that Ashley Down will remain second in the final league table.

Bream will play at Fairford, who finished runners-up in Gloucestershire Two North behind Tewkesbury, on Saturday 27th April.

It’s going to be a busy couple of weeks for Fairford because they play Stroud 2nds in the Stroud and District Combination’s Junior Cup final at Cirencester on Saturday 4th May.

The first of the Combination’s cup finals took place last Saturday with Tetbury defeating Dursley 3rds 46-27 in the Bill Adams Trophy at Cainscross.

The final was followed by a game between Cainscross and a Stroud and District Combination XV to mark the host club’s 125th anniversary.

The game was refereed by Simon Collyer-Bristow, who said: “It was played in an excellent spirit. I tried to engineer a 24-24 draw but after Stroud had scored a try to make it 24-22 the kicker missed the conversion from in front of the posts!”

Meanwhile Brian Flanders confirmed that the South West One East/West play-off between Launceston and Old Centralians will take place on the last Saturday of the month with Launceston having home advantage because they collected more points during the league campaign.
