Nadine Brown has been shopping for a couple of elves’ outfits over the past few days.

And no, they are not for her children – five-year-old Rory and Eden, 2 – they are for her and her mum Sandie Wood, who are both taking part in the Rudolphs Rampage charity fun run in Painswick tomorrow.

“It will be the first time we’ve run in fancy dress,” chuckled Nadine, 31. “The event is organised by All Runners and we’re raising money for the Churn Project.

“The nearest I’ve come to running in fancy dress is wearing pink when I took part in the Race for Life.”

The race starts at 10am in a quiet cul-de-sac opposite Painswick Rugby Club. The event is a 7km multi-terrain fancy dress run in and around Painswick. Much of the race is on footpath, woodland trails and farm tracks, but there are some road sections.

It is a hilly event with one big long climb of approximately a mile all off-road and a second steep, but shorter road hill into Painswick.

And if younger runners don’t fancy that route, there is a Rudolphs Dash that starts at 9am, to keep them fully occupied.

Nadine and Sandie are members of the Cirencester-based Running Somewhere Else club, and the Churn Project supports the most vulnerable and marginalised people of the Cirencester area.

Their aims are to reduce isolation and improve well-being for local people, particularly for those who are lonely, at a point of transition in their lives or experiencing mental health issues.
