Harry Bishop proved there’s no place quite like home as he won the City of Gloucester 10K in style.

The Gloucester runner finished in a time of 32 minutes, 20 seconds, and was well clear of Cheltenham’s Charlie Jones who finished in just a shade over 33 minutes.

The women’s race was won by Jo Pavey, a name that will be familiar to all athletics fans, in a time of 34 minutes, 39 seconds, finishing fourth overall.

Pavey, now 45, is a five-times Olympian and won gold in the 10,000 metres at the European championships in Zurich as recently as 2014.

Ed Grazier, of Cheltenham Harriers, won the wheelchair race in a time of 31 minutes, 10 seconds and the 2K children and family run also proved a big success.

The under-11 boys’ race winner was George Young, of Cheltenham Harriers, in a time of seven minutes, 42 seconds while the first under-11 girl to finish was Lauren Bowers in a time of seven minutes, 55 seconds.

In the under-13 race, the boys’ winner was Charlie Boulton in seven minutes, 27 seconds and the first under-13 girl home was Lizzy Merriman in eight minutes, 06 seconds.

Meanwhile Adam Hamilton, from Tewkesbury, broke the Guinness World Record for running a 10K while carrying a 45kg in weight backpack on his back.

His new mark of 57 minutes, 18 seconds was almost 28 minutes quicker than the previous record. He was raising money for the Mental Health Foundation.

The City of Gloucester 10K was run completely on roads except for the last 120 metres in Gloucester Park and organisers are delighted with how the event went.

The provisional date for next year’s race is Sunday 29th March with plans being put forward to bring the race into the city centre and taking out the section around the ring road.
