Ingrid Harris heads for this year’s Cheltenham Half Marathon with a title to defend.

The member of Almost Athletes was first vet 55 last year, going round in a time of one hour, 40 minutes, 26 seconds, and as such has been given a free entry to this year’s race on Sunday 29th September.

The 56-year-old, who lives in Hatherley, has been a regular runner in the Cheltenham Half since it became a permanent fixture on the sporting calendar a few years ago.

“I’ve run it five times,” she said. “I missed the one year because I broke my ankle when I was running the Vanguard Way marathon which starts in Croydon in London.”

And while she clearly enjoyed winning a title last year, Ingrid, who has a best half marathon time of one hour, 35, insists she is not expecting to complete a win double in a few weeks’ time.

“My aim is just to go out and enjoy it,” she said. “I don’t want to put myself under any pressure. It would be nice to win again but what will be will be.

“I didn’t expect to win it last year because the race is quite competitive.”

Ingrid, who has been a member of Almost Athletes for the past 18 years, is a big fan of the Cheltenham Half, which starts and finishes at Cheltenham Racecourse.

“I really like it,” she said. “The route takes you through Hatherley so I see a lot of people I know.

“It’s a good finish at the racecourse, you feel quite special when you’re running in front of the stands with all the people watching.”

This year’s race gets under way at 9am.
