Bill Leggatte has been crowned Cirencester Athletics and Triathlon Club’s athlete of the year at the club’s annual awards ceremony.

Leggatte has been in great form and the award is fitting after he won the club’s cross country and road running championships.

Nick Halliday was named club runner of the year.

For the ladies, there were three standout names with the cross-country award going to Pam Wheeler, the road race prize to Kate Sackett and the club runner award to Karen Higuera.

Sophie Chudley was named veteran of the year while the newcomer of the year award went to Aaron Willis.

James Widdowson, who won the most improved of the year award, spoke movingly of his route to running fitness and his recent joy at breaking a club age group record.

They also celebrated Rob Forbes’ amazing ultra-running achievements, Corrine Clarke’s superb triathlon performances and the great joint efforts of ‘The Nine’ who tackled the Chester Marathon for which they were named team of the year.

The behind the scenes work of Rupert Chesmore and Liza Darroch was also marked as they were jointly made club members of the year.

The club’s presentation of the junior awards takes place at the Prediction Race and Pool BBQ evening on Tuesday 18th June.
