The Wilson Art Gallery & Museum is bringing a new, unique pop up cinema experience to Cheltenham for the first time.

Visitors will be able to watch iconic films and documentaries in an atmosphere like no other – in the impressive third floor gallery space at The Wilson. In addition, they will get free entry into the current exhibition at The Wilson, plus food and drink while watching the film.

The first film series of 2019 is themed ‘Endurance’ to coincide with the current exhibition on display at The Wilson, ‘The Enduring Eye’ – a photographic exhibition of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s epic Antarctic expedition of 1914-17.

The ‘Endurance’ film series includes films and documentaries that take inspiration from “the curiosity of the human mind, the strength of the human body, and the determination of the human spirit.”

The series will feature six films throughout the month, beginning on Thursday 14th February with ‘Titanic’.

The event runs on selected days from Thursday 14th February to Sunday 24th February, with films including ‘The Revenant’, ‘The Thing’ and 'White Fang', plus documentaries such as 'Deep Water' and 'The Great White Silence' all set to feature.

The series is funded by the Friends of The Wilson, a charity set up in 1984 to support the gallery and its activities.

During this time the Friends of The Wilson have raised nearly half a million pounds towards funding of exhibitions, and event such as the new pop up cinema.

This is the first cinema series of its kind at The Wilson, with more set to be announced throughout the year.
