All Areas > Environment > Make Your Mark

Author: Claudie Francis, Posted: Friday, 1st June 2018, 09:00

Following on from last month in which we shared with you some campaigns and petitions that are trying to fight back against some of the current threats to our planet.

This month we have several more for you to have a look through. If any of these are of interest then please do get involved – sometimes all you need is a signature or simply just to join in, in order to make a change!

Friends of the Earth – #plasticfreefriday
Friends of the Earth are trying to encourage all of us to lower the amount of plastic we use on a daily basis by introducing their latest campaign ‘Plastic Free Friday’.
Their website is full of tips and tricks to help you cut out plastic for one day each week. You can sign up to receive more information on their latest campaigns or simply just join in on a Friday and visit the site for a helping hand.

The Great British Bee Count
We rely on bees for a healthy environment and economy – they pollinate many of the plants around us, including most of our fruit and vegetables. But bees are under threat from pesticides, habitat loss and climate change. Since 1900, the UK has lost 13 species of bee, and a further 35 are under threat of extinction.
Join the Great British Bee Count and help gather data to provide researchers with valuable insights to help bees thrive. You’ll also discover the wonderful world of bees in our gardens, streets and green spaces.

Love Food Hate Waste
Your food does its job best when it's on a plate ready to be enjoyed. Saving food saves money and helps to slow down global warming and deforestation. Reducing the amount of food that ends up in the bin also means you can say goodbye to unnecessary packaging waste. If we all make a few small changes and start using up the food we buy, together we can make a big difference.
