The Easter holidays are fast approaching and parents across the country will be searching for ways to entertain their little darlings for two whole weeks. From outdoor adventures to arts and crafts at home, here are some ideas to help you get through the holidays without too many repetitions of ‘I’m bored’!

Get outdoors
No matter your child’s age – from toddlers to teenagers – fresh air and green space is always a winning combination. So, pull on those wellies, grab a raincoat and a snack, and go for an adventure in the great outdoors. You could design your own scavenger hunt and search for seasonal delights such as daffodils, bluebells, butterflies, baby lambs and puddles – you’re sure to find plenty of those!

Easter Egg hunts are a well-loved tradition that can be enjoyed in the garden on a sunny day. Be sure to keep a note of where you hide the eggs, as you don’t want them being missed and melting if we’re treated to some warm weather this spring!

Get active
Those of us with younger children may be more limited when it comes to physical activities, but being active as a family can improve everyone’s physical and emotional well-being. Go for a bike ride in your local area, pack a picnic and take a walk up a nearby hill, or join up with other families and play a big game of football in the park.

If the weather is less favourable and you find yourselves stuck indoors, why not create an obstacle course with toys and cushions? You could have a bunny hop race across your living room, or bring the Easter Egg hunt indoors and spread it across multiple rooms and floors.

Get crafty
There are so many craft activities you can do with your kids at Easter. Create handprint and footprint art with little ones and turn them into Easter cards for friends and family. Make a headband with Easter bunny ears, paint eggs in pretty patterns, or have a go at creating carrot bunting to add a (temporary) splash of colour to your interiors.

A quick online search will bring up loads of ideas and you can choose one or more based on the supplies you have at home.

Get baking
My favourite Easter treats to make as a child were chocolate cornflake nests with mini chocolate eggs on top. You can find so many seasonal recipes online nowadays, plus The Local Answer have an archive of recipes on the website, including the latest one in this issue – Malteser rocky road.

Or why not borrow a recipe book from your local library and see how many recipes you can create before you need to take it back? It may be a slower and messier process when you involve kids, but baking is such a lovely activity to do with children and it lets them flex multiple skills. They can use maths to measure ingredients, reading to follow a recipe, fine motor skills to stir mixtures, and creativity when decorating what they’ve made.

If you make your way through all of these ideas and are still looking for things to do to keep your little ones entertained, check out our What’s On section for lots of events happening across the county this Easter.
