This season is a big one for the Glevum Bowls League because they are celebrating their 40th anniversary.

And to mark the occasion, they are holding a one-off cup competition which will feature all eight clubs who make up the Glevum League.

The draw for the Knockout Cup has been made – the first matches will be played on Thursday 21^st May – with the final taking place at Sissons Road, Gloucester, the home rink of both Gloucester Co-op and Caer Glow bowls clubs, on Thursday 13^th August (6pm).

Gloucester Co-op and Caer Glow have been drawn against either in the opening round.

“It’s a big achievement for the league to have been going for this length of the time,” said league secretary Pete Langley, who plays for Pineholt.

“The league is a prestigious competition. All the clubs are from Gloucester and it’s one they all want to win.”

Gloucester City are the current champions and Langley said that they and Barnwood are probably the two strongest teams in the league.

They are in opposite halves of the Knockout Cup draw.

Knockout Cup first round draw: Match 1, Caer Glow v Gloucester Co-op (Thurs 21st May); Match 2, Gloucester City v Sir Thomas Rich’s  (Thurs 21^st May); Match 3, Winget v Pineholt (Thurs 11th June); Match 4, Churchdown Village v Barnwood (Thurs 18th June). All matches to start at 6.30pm

Semi-finals: Winner Match 1 v Winner Match 4; Winner Match 2 v Winner Match 3. Dates to be confirmed, matches to start at 6.30pm.
