Craig Burden was the hero for Down Hatherley, smashing the last two balls of the match for six and then four to clinch a thrilling one-wicket home victory over unbeaten leaders Cirencester 2nds in Division Seven of the Bank House Gloucestershire County League.

The visitors compiled a challenge of 194-9 after winning the toss, Rob Lamble (68) top scoring as Rob Smith claimed 3-26 from seven.

Smith followed up that fine effort with 59 but Cirencester appeared to be in control as James King finished with 3-13 from nine before Burden ended a terrific contest in memorable style.

Leaders Westbury-on-Severn, meanwhile, boosted their hopes of the Division One title and promotion to WEPL with a three-wicket victory away to Lydney who started the day in second place.

The star of the show was undoubtedly Jon Tegg who dominated the chase to a target of 195 with a magnificent unbeaten 119, the next highest scorer being opening partner James Down (26).

Pete Glynn finished with 4-19 from nine for Lydney who had 50s from Jon Kear and Slater Asnicar.

Cheltenham 2nds are up to second thanks to a nine-wicket romp at Gloucester AIW Sports, but Kingsholm lost ground with a low-scoring three-wicket defeat at Painswick for whom opener George MacDuff hit 45.

Cranham are out of the bottom two thanks to a 124-run home triumph against Woodmancote, James Pockett following up his 48 with excellent figures of 6-27 from nine.

Cam, the Division Two pacesetters, were comfortable seven-wicket victors at Thornbury 2nds, Jake Dolbear unbeaten on 85 while Poulton remain second after dispatching Stone by five wickets.

Opener Jake Nickell’s 105 was a highlight of Hatherley and Reddings 2nds’ 78-run success at Chipping Sodbury 2nds while Brad Stansfield, who earlier this month hit a club record 158 for Oldlands, was out for 109 in a 152-run home caning of Gloucester City Winget 2nds.

James Nicol (6-40) paved the way for Division Three leaders Shurdington to overcome Newent by four wickets while Jugal Thammisetti’s 60 was crucial to Ullenwood Bharat’s 24-run away-day triumph over Frocester 3rds.

James Dryden’s unbeaten 103 lifted Rockhampton 2nds to a total of 224-5 but their Lydney counterparts squeezed in by two wickets thanks mainly to opener Jordan Stone (122).

In Division Four, Aston Ingham piled up 364-4 at home to Hawkesbury Upton, Jack Carpenter (76 not) and James Hamilton (75) starring in a 166-run romp.

Chetan Ubale produced one of the bowling spells of the day, claiming 6-19 from 6.2 overs, for Birdlip and Brimpsfield who thumped Lechlade 2nds by 188 runs.

Openers Rob Birch (106) and Gareth Yardley (85) paved the way for Apperley 2nds to secure only their third win of the campaign in Division Five, defeating Stroud 2nds by 74 runs.
