Batsman and wicketkeeper James Bracey has signed a contract with Gloucestershire, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2019 season.

The 20-year-old broke into the first team last year, featuring regularly towards the end of the County Championship campaign.

His most impressive performance of the season was against Glamorgan in Cardiff in September. He ended with an impressive 156, which included 19 fours and two sixes. He finished with a first-class average of 51.44 in 2017.

“I’m delighted to be signing my first professional contract, especially the fact it is with my home county,” said Bristol-born Bracey.

“It’s something I’ve always worked very hard for and I’m grateful for all the opportunities I’ve been given with Gloucestershire, the GCB, Winterbourne Cricket Club and Bristol Cricket Club.

“I thoroughly look forward to the new challenges that will come with being a full-time professional, and I’m confident that the young group we have here are capable of being very successful on the field.”

Bracey, who is in his last year of university, will be joining up with the squad full-time at the end of his studies.

Gloucestershire head coach Richard Dawson added: “James had an excellent end to the 2017 season and showed the players and supporters the potential that he has.

“I am delighted that he has signed a two-year contract with Gloucestershire where he can continue to improve and build on this talent.

“Keeping our best homegrown young talent is a major goal and doing this will help continue to improve the team over the coming seasons.”
