Cheltenham are on a good run but chairman David Partridge says there is more to come
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 19th June 2026, 09:00
In-form Cheltenham entertain Corsham tomorrow on the back of four straight wins.
It is a run that has taken them up to second place in the WEPL Premier 2 Glos/Wilts, just six points behind unbeaten leaders Hatherley and Reddings.
They beat Marshfield by 10 wickets in their most recent outing – left-arm spinner Jack Cherrington took 5-11 in eight overs as they were skittled for 83 – but chairman David Partridge says that there is still much more to come from the team.
“It’s still a work in progress,” said the one-time Gloucestershire all-rounder. “We’re not as good as we can be or I’d like us to be.”
But the signs are encouraging with new captain and all-rounder James Boyle making a big impact.
“He’s an outstanding cricketer,” continued Partridge. “Stanley Brown and Kieran Smith have come back to the club and they’re contributing.
“We’re playing cricket properly. We’re doing most of the basics properly most of the time.
“We’re improving but there’s still work to do.”
Cheltenham’s only league defeat was against Hatherley in the middle of last month when they were beaten by four wickets in the penultimate over after making 292-8.
Boyle made 46 and then took 3-50 in that game and Partridge is pleased not only with his form but also the way he captains the side.
“He understands the game, he’s a good thinker,” Partridge said. “he takes the team with him, he leads and they follow him.
“They’re playing as a team, we’re hopeful about what lies ahead.”
