Gloucester AIW Sports dig deep to beat Frampton-on-Severn by one wicket
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Tuesday, 1st July 2025, 09:00
Gloucester AIW Sports recovered from 56-8 to win an “amazing” game by one wicket at Frampton-on-Severn on Saturday.
Bowlers dominated on a day when 19 wickets fell in fewer than 70 overs after Gloucester AIW had won the toss.
They dismissed the home side for 119 in the 33rd over but the Gloucestershire Cricket League Division Three leaders looked to be facing certain defeat when their ninth-wicket pair joined forces.
“It was an amazing game,” said Gloucester AIW captain Vasif Muzavar.
“Both sides bowled very, very well. It looked a flat wicket but the ball moved around big-time.”
Frampton captain and wicketkeeper Billy Curtis, batting at six, made 29, the highest score of the day, and was one of only three players on both sides who went past 20.
The other two were Gloucester AIW’s ninth-wicket pair Mohammad Saleh (25) and Shockat Veshmia (26 not).
They added 56 and Muzavar said: “They played so well, they just kept grinding, grinding, grinding.”
Another eight runs were still needed when Muzavar went out to bat and he was on strike when they clinched victory albeit the winning run came courtesy of a wide.
Earlier, new-ball bowler Kaihaan Zakhil was the pick of the Gloucester AIW attack, taking 5-37 in 7.5 overs.
“He’s quick and he bowled a good line and length,” said Muzavar.
The victory leaves Gloucester AIW six points clear of Woodmancote, who enjoyed a six-wicket win over Fairford on Saturday, in the 10-strong division.
Promotion is the aim for Gloucester AIW but Muzavar is not looking too far ahead.
“We’re only halfway through the season, there are still nine games to play,” he said.
