Hatherley and Reddings to take on Chipping Sodbury in Gloucestershire County Cup final
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 13th August 2025, 09:30
Hatherley and Reddings are through to the Gloucestershire County Cup final after a thumping 109-run win at Downend.
They will play Chipping Sodbury – 107-run winners over Dumbleton in the other semi-final – at the County Ground, Bristol, on Saturday 6th September.
Downend, who play in Premier One of the West of England Premier League, were always struggling to get close to Hatherley’s imposing 345 all out from 39.1 overs and they were dismissed with 39 balls remaining.
“It was a really good win,” said director of cricket Sam Coote. “It’s the third time we’ve been to Bristol in the competition and we’ve come away with three wins, we’re chuffed to be in the final.
“It’s good to see a lot of our younger guys make contributions, we have a strong focus on our young players.”
Nemika Benthota was Hatherley’s batting star, smashing 96 from just 56 balls, an innings that included 10 sixes and five fours.
“There was a very short boundary on the one side but you’ve still got to hit it,” said Coote. “It was the same for both sides.”
Opener George Driver-Dickinson was also in impressive form, making 80 from 73 balls before left-arm spinner Shahrukh Ali took 4-52 in eight overs.
“He’s a new addition this year,” added Coote. “He’s done really well, he’s a really reliable bowler.”
Coote is looking forward to seeing skipper Tom Hage lead out the side in the final and he continued: “It’s a chance to win some silverware. Every competition we enter we want to win.
“We went to Bristol, who play in Premier One, at the start of the competition and we had a really good win against them.”
Chipping Sodbury play one level below Hatherley in the Gloucestershire Division but they are enjoying a good season.
They are top of the table and are well placed to win the title.
Hatherley, meanwhile, made it three wins in a row in Premier 2 Glos/Wilts after overcoming Chippenham by 32 runs on Saturday.
Hatherley made 287-4 with Noah Bennett, Ganesh Gadugu and Harry Bloomfield all hitting half-centuries and Coote said: “It was a really good weekend for us.”Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
