Tewkesbury Royals and University of Gloucestershire Giants look to keep Cheltenham Premier T20 hopes alive
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 23rd June 2025, 09:00
This year’s Cheltenham Premier T20 final will take place at Cheltenham College on the second day of the Cheltenham Cricket Festival
Tewkesbury Royals and the University of Gloucestershire Giants go into the final round of group games in the Cheltenham Premier T20 with all to play for.
Bourton Vale Vikings, Dumbleton Dynamite and Hatherley Hurricanes have secured their spots in the play-offs – the top three all have 10 points – but it’s all to play for in the race for the final place.
Both Tewkesbury and the Giants have six points after winning three and losing three, but Tewkesbury hold the advantage because their net run rate of 1.19 is appreciably better than that of the Giants (0.03).
They also have what appears to be the easier final game – they’re at home to Cheltenham Civil Service Sixers who have won just one game, while the Giants must travel to table-topping Bourton.
Both teams go into tomorrow’s games on the back of impressive wins, with Tewkesbury thumping Charlton Super Kings by 126 runs – Josh Richards smashed 126 from 59 balls, hitting 14 fours and eight sixes – while the Giants won by 43 runs at Civil Sixers.
Meanwhile, there is little to choose between the top three after Hatherley’s stunning nine-wicket win over previously unbeaten Bourton, a game in which Ganesh Gadugu took 3-17 before hitting an unbeaten 83 from 47 balls as Hatherley overhauled Bourton's 142-7 in 13 overs.
Dumbleton made it five wins from six with a 36-run win over Cheltenham Spartans – Ollie Horne made an unbeaten 68 from 33 deliveries in their 185-6 – and they host Hatherley tomorrow.
That’s a game that both teams will want to win because finishing in the top two is potentially a big advantage once the play-offs start.
The play-offs get under way on Tuesday 1st July, with Qualifier 1 between the top two teams and Eliminator 1 between the third and fourth-placed sides. The winners of Qualifier 1 will go straight through to the final while the losers will play the winners of Eliminator 1 on Tuesday 8th July for a place in the showpiece final.
As it stands, Bourton are top of the table thanks to their net run rate of 1.85, ahead of Dumbleton (1.66) and Hatherley (1.14).
The final will be played at Cheltenham College on day two of the Cheltenham Cricket Festival on Friday 18th July.Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
