Gloucester City skipper Keiran Thomas is hoping to return to action at the end of this month.

The 30-year-old right-back has been sidelined since the middle of October after breaking his left ankle in a 2-0 Southern League Premier Division South win at Bracknell Town.

Gloucester travel to Sholing for a league game on Saturday 31^st January and Thomas said: “I may be being a bit optimistic but I’m hoping I may get some minutes in that game.”

Daf Williams’ side have two games before that fixture, starting with a home clash against bottom-of-the-table Tiverton Town on Saturday.

Thomas, a former Cheltenham Town scholar, will be watching on from the sidelines and it’s a game he feels the club need to win.

They’ve won just two of their last eight league games – they’ve also drawn three – and it’s a run that has seen them drop to third place in the table, 13 points adrift of leaders Walton & Hersham, who they travel to play on Tuesday.

They remain on course for a place in the end-of-season play-offs and have games in hand on pretty much all the teams around them but Thomas admitted: “We need to win on Saturday, it’s a massive game.

“We’ve had a lot of injuries and suspensions. At this stage of the season it looks like automatic promotion will be difficult, but promotion has always been the aim whether by finishing top or going through the play-offs.”
