Table-topping Tewkesbury Town are scoring goals for fun

Team of the moment Tewkesbury Town have moved to the top of the County League after a stunning 11-game winning run.
Their 5-0 win at home to Bishop’s Cleeve Development on Saturday saw them go above Sharpness after their game with Frampton United was postponed.
Tewkesbury are playing in the County League for the first time in their history and after an uncertain start to the campaign – they lost their first three games and drew their fourth – they have turned their season around.
They have scored more goals than anyone else in the 17-strong division – 47 – and their goal difference of 32 is also appreciably better than that of their rivals.
“It’s great to see,” said club official Stuart Bailey. “We struggled to adapt in the first three or four games but since then we’ve been flying.
“The players have put in an awful lot of hard work and they are being rewarded, the goals are coming thick and fast.
“They’re being shared around too. Jamie Goodwin is still our top scorer but everyone is chipping in.”
Tewkesbury’s form in 2025/26 is a continuation of their form of last season when manager James Coates’ side won the Northern Senior League title in impressive style, but Bailey admitted: “We’re exceeding expectations, we don’t fear anyone.”
Unbeaten Sharpness trail Tewkesbury by two points but they have three games in hand.
“I’d rather have the points,” continued Bailey. “Yes, they’ve got a couple of games in hand but every week is a potential banana skin, there’s a long way to go.”
Tewkesbury, who have scored 23 goals in their last four matches, host Sharpness on Saturday 17th January in what promises to be a key game, while their next fixture is two weeks earlier at Bromley Heath United.Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
