Twigworth Green win GFA Primary Cup North with second-half goal flurry at Kayte Lane
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 2nd April 2026, 10:30
Twigworth Green scored four second-half goals to win the GFA Primary Cup North in impressive style last night.
They beat fellow Stroud League Division 5N side Hunts Grove 4-1 at Kayte Lane after trailing at the break.
Central midfielder Morgan Williams got them back on level terms before winger Callum Harcombe put them in front with the pick of their goals.
“He controlled the ball inside the box, stepped in and fired it into the corner with his right foot,” said striker Brodie Goddard-Jones.
Winger Dave Bishop made it three, before centre-back Jake Cropper completed the scoring with a penalty.
Twigworth Green were formed only at the start of the season and Goddard-Jones said: “It’s been a dream. We were just happy to be in a County Cup final but we knew we had a chance of winning because we’d beaten them in the league. But a final is a final.”
Twigworth are top of Division 5N and still unbeaten after winning 10 and drawing four, while Hunts Grove are fifth in the eight-strong division.
“Credit to Hunts Grove,” said Goddard-Jones. “They are in their first season of men’s football too. They put us through our paces before we put the game to bed in the later stages.
“It felt like a proper game last night, the pitch at Bishop’s Cleeve was brilliant.”
Twigworth Green, who plan to run a second team next season, are now hoping to complete a league and cup double.
With four games to play they hold a six-point advantage over Barnwood 3rds, who have played one game fewer.
The two teams meet at Barnwood on Wednesday 8th April.Other Images
