There were three goals, two penalties, five bookings and a sending off at Broadwell Amateurs as newly promoted Sharpness maintained their unbeaten start to the new County League season with an odd goal in three win.

That was despite their goalkeeper Dan Hobbs seeing red in the first half when the game was still goalless.

They also missed an early penalty – James Killkenny conceded the spot-kick but fortunately for him goalkeeper Ben Reed saved the effort.

Liam Thomas was only just wide for the home side in the early stages but after the visitors had been reduced to 10 men they went ahead just before half-time when Dan Gayner headed home from a free-kick.

Sharpness made it two on 60 minutes when Dan Gayner coolly slotted home a penalty before Broadwell made the closing stages interesting with an Ollie Hunt goal in the 75th minute.

There are new leaders in the division with Wick now in pole position after previous leaders Gala Wilton drew 1-1 at home to Frampton United.

Frampton, who had twice gone close through Ryan Vincent in the first half, had to play the entire second half with 10 men after Liam O’Neill was dismissed a minute before half-time for pulling down Jay Dare.

Martin Smith gave Gala the lead after the break but Steve Jackson levelled for the visitors late on to leave them just behind second-placed Gala on points difference. Wick are two points clear at the top.

A crowd of more than 170 were at Quedgeley Wanderers to see the home side overcome Hardwicke 3-1.

Kyle James-Bryan had a couple of early chances for the home side and then saw an effort ruled out for offside but he got on the scoresheet in the 34th minute when he lifted the ball over Hardwicke keeper Jacob Hobbs.

Six minutes into the second half he was at it again as he picked up a long ball from the back pumped up field by Louis Peyton to fire past Hobbs.

Hardwicke pulled a goal back eight minutes later through Jordan Dowdeswell but an off the ball incident saw Hardwicke’s Steve Bick sent off and Wanderers netted a third on 78 minutes from the penalty spot.

Alex Barrett was brought down and skipper Louis Peyton netted the resultant spot-kick.

Other results: Hanham Ath 1 Ruardean Hill R 3; Henbury 4 Bromley Heath Utd 2; Little Stoke 0 Wick 2; Rockleaze R 5 Patchway T 2.
