It’s not just the horses and jockeys who will be centre stage at Cheltenham Racecourse on New Year’s Day.

That’s because the ever popular meeting, which starts off the 2020 season at Prestbury Park, will also welcome Alex the Lion and Skipper the Penguin from DreamWorks’ Madagascar who will make appearances throughout the day.

The racing will remain the main attraction of the day, of course, but with so many people still in party mood after the Christmas and new year festivities, it’s fair to say there is pretty much something to entertain everyone at the racecourse tomorrow.

The popular family fun zone will return with loads of great entertainment to keep the children - and parents! – amused.

The first 500 children to visit the zone will receive a walking pet balloon and get a balloon model of their choice from Twistina and Twistopher.

There will be performances from children’s entertainer Showtime Shane, face painting, horse hoppers, colouring in and rosette making, fun inflatables and a visit from St James City Farm for the kids to meet and enjoy the animals.

Throughout the day there will be live music in the Guinness Village and The Hipcats will be playing jazz around the racecourse along with a live performance from Tommy and the Fuse after racing in The Centaur.
The gates open at 10.30am on New Year’s Day, with the first race at 12.15pm.
