There have been miles of smiles around Guiting Power this week after Boher Lad, the horse owned by Mike Edwards and his family, won at Stratford on Sunday.

The 12-year-old, trained by Alan Phillips at Callow End, triumphed in a three miles two furlongs hurdle race.

It was the fifth race that Boher Lad has won and he's been placed 12 times.

Edwards commented: "It's remarkable because when he moved to Alan Phillips' yard he was a nine-year-old maiden."

The Edwards family was out in force to see Boher Lad's latest success - including grandchildren Connor and Rohan - and Edwards described it as "a great family day".

Depending on a drop of rain, Boher Lad will have a couple more runs before enjoying a well-earned retirement in the leafy paddocks near Malvern, staying at the trainers' yard as part of the family.
