Being part of Hucclewick Under-12s involves more than just playing rugby.

That’s because the youngsters who play for the newly formed team are also designing their own playing shirts.

Regular readers of The Local Answer will know that the award-winning Hucclewick Under-12s are an amalgamation of players from Hucclecote and Painswick.

They joined forces earlier in the season because both teams were short of players, and such has been the success of their new venture that they became one of 12 winners nationwide of Gallagher’s Train with Your Heroes competition.

Gallagher are the title partner of Premiership Rugby, and the competition encouraged people to nominate their community rugby club or team by showing how it embodies the spirit and values of rugby both on and off the pitch.

Hucclewick Under-12s were one of the winners “for their commitment, inclusivity, passion, energy and perseverance in overcoming adversity and embracing their merged team ‘Hucclewick’ in order to ensure they can always field enough players.”

And the youngsters are continuing to show that spirit both on and off the pitch.

Hucclewick Under-12s team manager Julia Nigh said of the new shirt design: “All the players have been asked to come up with their own design.

“The only thing that they must include is the colours of Hucclecote and Painswick – yellow and black of Hucclecote and red and white of Painswick.”

Nigh is hoping that the players will be able to wear their new look shirt before the end of the season and the team are hoping to secure £560 in sponsorship for 20 shirts.

Anyone who is interested in sponsoring the team should contact Julia Nigh at Julia@distinctiveamericas.com

Up until the new shirt is designed the team will continue to play matches in Painswick’s colours one week and Hucclecote’s the next.
