It may only be mid-May but already the movers and shakers at Brockworth Rugby Club have their eyes on next season.

So much so that the club are running a girls’ rugby taster afternoon on Saturday (1-3pm) with the hope of getting more girls involved in rugby.

They are hoping that their big day will help them to continue to grow the strong contingent of mini/youth players already at the club and provide a pathway for girls to continue with rugby after the age of 13.

“We are proud to have a very strong girl contingent within our mini section which we are looking to strengthen in the coming years,” a spokesman for the club said.

“Under RFU age grade rugby rules, once our girls hit the under-13s age, they can no longer play in a mixed team, so we are very keen to increase our female playing numbers sooner rather than later.

“We also hope that this may interest any older players that would possibly like to get involved with our thriving ladies’ team.

“We are actively encouraging any potential female players, daughters, cousins, mums, aunties, nieces and grandmothers to join us for this family afternoon of fun and games.

“The emphasis is on having fun and getting people interested in joining the Badgers. Do not be put off if you have never played before, all abilities are welcome and the day will be based on fun and games.”

The taster day is for six-year-olds and above.
