The big games keep on coming for Gordon League.

Seven days after clinching the Counties 2 Gloucestershire North title with a walloping 60-31 win at main rivals Old Patesians they face-off against Bream in what promises to be another pulsating clash.

Gordon League have home advantage on Saturday in the end-of-season play-off between the champions of Counties 2 Gloucestershire North and South, a game that will determine which club will be playing in Counties 1 Western North next season.

“It’s a very big game,” said Gordon League secretary and former player Alan McMahon.

“It’s one of the biggest games the club have had. Last Saturday was big – if we hadn’t won the title we wouldn’t be involved in the play-off – but this is even bigger.”

Saturday’s eagerly-awaited clash, which kicks off at 3pm, is actually a double header because the two clubs have also been drawn together in the first round of the Papa Johns Community Cup Counties 2 Championship.

“That just adds to the occasion,” added McMahon, who is hoping Gordon League can continue their remarkable run of form which has seen them go unbeaten since losing to Old Pats on the opening day of the season.

They won 19 of their 20 league games, collecting 95 points out of a possible 100.

Bream will not be pushovers, however, after seeing off the challenge of Dings Crusaders 2nds to win Counties 2 Gloucestershire South.

They claimed the title with a 53-22 win at Bristol Saracens on Saturday, their 20th win in 22 league games.

“They are obviously a good side, they’ve got to be because they’ve won their title,” added McMahon.

Meanwhile, last year’s North Gloucestershire Combination Senior Cup winners Longlevens are out of this season’s competition after losing 32-7 at Matson, the team they beat in the final 11 months ago.

North Gloucestershire Combination Senior Cup first round results: Matson 32 Longlevens 7; Chosen Hill 33 Old Richians 12; Coney Hill 7 Old Centralians 42; Hucclecote HWO Gordon League.
