In-form Hucclecote chasing remarkable finish to the season

Hucclecote have everything to play for as they target what would be a remarkable treble.
Their flagship team are chasing the Counties 3 Gloucestershire North title, they are through to the last eight of the RFU Community Cup Counties 3 & Below Championship and, next month, they launch their North Gloucestershire Combination Martin Slatter Cup campaign.
“We’re in with a shout of three trophies,” said head coach Jack Preece. “It will be tough because all of the games are on top of each other.”
They have five league games remaining after their 43-14 win at Spartans in their most recent outing and host leaders Cirencester in a game that may decide the title on Saturday 28th March. Second-placed Hucclecote trail Cirencester, who also have five games to play, by four points.
Hucclecote are at Gordon League 2nds in a first-round Martin Slatter Cup tie on Wednesday 8th April and travel to Old Georgians, who are going well in Counties 3 Surrey, on Saturday 2nd May for their RFU Community Cup quarter-final.
“The players deserve to win something,” continued 36-year-old Preece, who is in his second season as head coach at the club.
“I’m really pleased. Last season we had a lot of injuries but I think we did well to finish as high as we did.”
They finished mid-table in Counties 2 Gloucestershire North in 2024/25 but a restructuring of the league meant they dropped down a level for this campaign.
“We want to win promotion because we want to progress the club up the league,” said Preece. “I think the players are good enough to play at a higher level.
“This season has been good. We’ve had lots of players available, good numbers at training and we’ve been getting a regular 2nd team out.”
Push him to say which trophy he’d prefer to win if the club could win only one and Preece admits it would be the RFU Community Cup.
“I think for the lads it has to be that one because the final is at Twickenham,” he said. “That would be good for them, it would be a bucket list thing.”
Hucclecote travel to Coney Hill, who are also in the last eight of the RFU Community Cup Counties 3 & Below Championship, for a league game tomorrow.
