The Twickenham dream is getting ever closer to being realised for Matson and Old Cryptians.

They are through to last four of the Intermediate Cup and the Junior Vase respectively and their trophy runs have captured the imagination of people in and around the city of Gloucester.

“It’s great for the city,” said Stan Fritchley, president of the North Gloucestershire Combination. “I’m delighted for them and it would be great to see them both get to Twickenham.

“They’ve got big hurdles to surmount but it’s a great achievement to have two clubs from the North Gloucestershire Combination in the semi-finals of national competitions.

“I think everybody around here wants them to go all the way.”

That won’t be easy, of course, although Old Cryptians, who won 22-3 at Chipping Norton in the previous round, at least have home advantage when they take on Reeds Weybridge on Saturday 20th April.

Reeds Weybridge booked their place in the last four with a 35-6 win at home to Hitchin and they have been impressive in Surrey One this season, winning all 15 of their games.

Matson, meanwhile, must travel to Old Colfeians, after overcoming visitors Sherborne 25-18 on Saturday.

Old Colfeians, who play in London Two South East, eased into the semi-final with a 34-12 win at Letchworth. They have won 13 of their 19 league games this season after their relegation from London One South last season. The Intermediate Cup semi-final will also be played on 20th April.
