Work on Cinderford's £1.35m state-of-the-art 3G pitch gathers pace

Photographs taken by Chris Witham show the progress that is being made at Cinderford Rugby Club as they look forward to having their very own state-of-the-art 3G pitch.

The work to dig up their old grass pitch at Dockham Road began a few weeks ago and there is plenty of excitement around the Forest of Dean club as the £1.35 million project gathers pace.

The new pitch, which is being funded by club president Peter Bell, CEO of K W Bell Group, will be ready for use at the start of the 2025/26 season.

Bell has been president of the National 2 West club for 19 years and the new 3G pitch will benefit players of all ages at the club as well as the wider community.

It is expected to be playable in all weather conditions and it will require a lot less maintenance than a grass pitch.

The photos taken by Witham, who lives next door to the rugby club, show there is plenty of work still to be done, of course, but Cinderford Rugby Club press officer Nigel Wilce told The Local Answer: “It will all be ready for the start of the new season, there’s been a lot of progress already.”
