Wales captain and British Lion Jac Morgan will join Gloucester for the start of the next season.

The 25-year-old forward can play across the back row and has earned recognition across the world for his industrious performances in both attack and defence.

“We’re really pleased to get a deal for Jac over the line,” said George Skivington, Gloucester’s director of rugby.

Gloucester have also signed Morgan's Ospreys team-mate Dewi Lake, a hooker, for the 2026/27 campaign.

Morgan has represented both the Scarlets and Ospreys in his homeland, making more than 70 senior appearances between the two.

“He’s a genuinely world-class rugby player and has a big impact in every team he’s been a part of, and that’s a really exciting prospect.

“Jac no doubt had lots of offers on the table, so for him to commit to the project here at Kingsholm is a great nod to the programme we have in place, and the ambition we have for next season and beyond.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Jac into the group next season.”

Morgan's domestic form in Wales and his impressive performances captaining the Wales Under-20s side saw him called up to the Wales senior squad for the first time in 2022, debuting in a victory over Scotland.

He was named Wales senior co-captain for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, leading the side with Dewi Lake.

Morgan was one of two Welsh players named in the British & Irish Lions squad for the tour of Australia last summer, winning player of the match against the Queensland Reds, and appearing from the bench in the second and third Tests against the Wallabies.

“I'm delighted to sign for Gloucester Rugby ahead of the 2026/27 season,” Morgan said.

“It's a great club with brilliant supporters. I know a lot of players at Gloucester who speak highly of the environment, and I'm excited for the future. I'm also looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Gallagher Prem.”

Lake, meanwhile, has made over 70 appearances for Ospreys across the United Rugby Championship (URC), Challenge Cup and Champions Cup.

Capped at Wales at under-20 level for the first time in 2018, Lake was selected to captain the side at the 2019 World Rugby Under-20 Championship, leading Wales to a memorable 8-7 victory over New Zealand at the tournament.

First called up to the senior squad in 2020, Lake had to wait until the 2022 Six Nations for his Wales debut against Ireland.

Since his debut, he has won 26 caps, including a historic win over the Springboks in South Africa and featuring in the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

“Dewi is the epitome of a modern-day hooker, dominant at set piece and industrious around the park," said Skivington.

“He’s a gritty and abrasive player, and I know that’s what fans like to see in a Gloucester player. I think they’ll take to Dewi really quickly.

“With Dewi and Jac coming in, we’ve significantly bolstered our pack, adding to the talent that’s already here, and we’re shaping up nicely for the start of the 2026/27 season.”

Lake, 26, is looking forward to taking on a fresh challenge.

“I had a really good chat with the club about their ambitions and how I could play a part in that, and it got me really excited for the challenge ahead," he said.

“I’ve always admired Gloucester for the way they play. I feel like it’s suited to my strengths and the way I like to play the game.

“The Gallagher Prem is probably the most competitive league in the world, and I feel like I'm at a good stage in my career to take the opportunity with both hands.”
