It's all systems go for Sunday's Tewkesbury Half Marathon

Jon Mansfield is looking forward to the Tewkesbury Half Marathon

Tewkesbury will be buzzing with runners from across the county and beyond preparing to take part in the town’s half-marathon on Sunday.

Organised by Future Sports Events, it will get under way at 9am in the High Street.

The High Street is also where the race will finish and Tewkesbury Running Club member Jon Mansfield said: “It’s great, you don’t get the chance to run in the High Street very often.”

A 10K will run alongside the half-marathon and Mansfield, who is 58, said: “I’m hoping to run a sub one hour, 30 half. I should be able to go round in 1.28 which for my age is pretty good.”

His best time for 13.1 miles is 1.17 set in Bristol back in 2013, but his partner Hannah Moon is hoping to set a PB on Sunday.

“Her best is 1.51, she’s aiming for 1.50,” said Mansfield. “Hopefully the weather is good and everything goes without a hitch.”

That’s also the hope of Tewkesbury Running Club chairman Nigel Tillott, who will be one of many watching the big race.

He is competing in the Vale Coastal Ultra on Saturday, an event which begins at Penarth Pier, but he will be back in plenty of time for Sunday.

It is the first time that Tewkesbury has hosted a half-marathon for a number of years and Tillott said: “It’s very exciting.”

A maximum of 1,500 runners will take part in the half-marathon.
