'We want runners to feel at the heart of something'
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Sunday, 17th May 2026, 09:00
Some 150 runners will be descending on Dunkertons in Charlton Kings on Wednesday evening to take part in two races.
The 5K has become an established event at the venue over the past two or three years but now organisers have added a 10K Summer Trail which is proving popular.
The two runs, which are organised by Northleach-based Well Run Races, will see runners chase across fields, weave through woods and climb to breathtaking views before returning to Dunkerton Park.
Runners can sign up on the night - sign-ups are from 5.30pm and the races start at 7pm - and Izzy Lane, race director and co-founder of Well Run Races with Abigail Weber, said: “We try to put on nice races, this is our third year of organising races in Gloucestershire.
“We want people to have fun. A lot of our races are over undulating courses so it’s not all about times.
“For us it’s about how many people’s lives we can touch, how we can improve their experiences.
“We love it when we hear people say after one of our races that they’ve felt they were at the heart of something, that’s what we want.”
And this year Well Run Races are spreading their reach because they are putting on a number of new races.
Chief among them is the Hawkstone 10K, 5K and 1K kids’ fun run which will take place on Wednesday 8th July.
“It offers something for everyone with a variety of distances that take in the Cotswolds, starting and finishing at Hawkstone Brewery made famous by Jeremy Clarkson,” say the organisers.
A half-marathon has been added to the autumnal Far Peak event which this year will be staged on Sunday 22nd November with 29-year-old Lane, who lives in Bourton-on-the-Water, saying: “We’ve got 10 races over four events this year.”
They are also supporting Well Child, a national charity that gives seriously ill children, young people and their families across the UK the best chance to thrive at home.
The charity’s head office is in Cheltenham and Lane said: “It’s really important to us that they are based in Cheltenham and we love what they do.
“Children are our future and if we can help in any way we can, we will.”
Well Run’s fourth event is the Dunkertons Night Trail 5K which takes place on Wednesday 21st October.
