Minchinhampton A are on course to make a speedy return to the Premier Division of the Gloucestershire Summer League.

They are leading the way in Division 1A after five matches and will be looking to stretch their advantage when they travel to third-placed East Glos E tomorrow.

Second-placed Cheltenham, who are three points adrift of Minchinhampton in the seven-team division having played one game more, have a trip to Lydney.

Minchinhampton were relegated from the Premier Division at the end of last season and men’s club captain Lee Chambers is confident that they will be promoted.

“I think we will,” he said. “The challenge then is stay in the Premier Division which is very East Glos dominated.

“Four of the seven teams are from East Glos, they’ve got such depth.”

Minchinhampton, who are captained by Dan Parker, have won their last four matches 4-0 after drawing their opening match 2-2 at Cheltenham.

The rest of the regular squad is made up of brothers Matt and Nick Dill, club coach James Aburrow and Jason Boon.

“It’s important that we win promotion,” continued Chambers. “The ladies A team are in the Premier Division and in the winter league we finished second behind East Glos in the Premier Division.

“We’ve got some strong clubs around us – Painswick, Nailsworth, Chalford and Frampton. We’ve only got three courts, we’re punching above our weight.

“Last season the men’s B, C and D teams were all promoted in the summer league – the B team are now playing in Division 1B and the C team are playing in Division 2B.”
