Bishop’s Cleeve’s two Cheltenham League teams facing a huge fixture backlog

Bishop’s Cleeve A head into March with a remarkable 17 games still to play in Division One of the Cheltenham League.

The wretched weather of the past few months has allowed them to play only nine league games and tomorrow’s game at home to Kings has already been called off.

Bishop’s Cleeve secretary Nigel Green told The Local Answer today that Kayte Lane was “like a lake”.

The frustrating thing for manager John Hunt and his players is that the nine league games they have played have produced 19 points from six wins and a draw and although they are down in seventh in the 14-strong division, if they won their games in hand – admittedly a tough ask – they would be just a point behind leaders Tewkesbury Town.

The club’s 3rd team – Bishop’s Cleeve Development – also face a big backlog of games in Division Four having played nine of their 24 league fixtures.

It’s a similar story for pretty much all clubs, of course. Charlton Rovers Reserves of Division Three and Kempsey Corinthians of Division Four are averaging just over one league game per month this season, having played just seven so far.

Charlton still have 13 games to play going into the final Saturday of February, having won four and drawn two of their opening seven games.

Kempsey Corinthians have also played just the seven league games and after winning six of them are very much involved in the promotion picture. They still have 17 league games to play.
