Gala Wilton left the best until last as they won their final game of the County League season 2-0 at Little Stoke to get off the bottom of the table, finishing above Southmead CS Athletic on goal difference.

And it was some performance because mid-table Little Stoke had won their previous two games without conceding a goal.

The game got off to a flying start with Gala keeper Lewis Skyers smothering Luke Meacham’s fierce shot before Gala went straight down the other end where they were awarded a penalty.

Ryan Dobbins was entrusted with the spot kick and he sent keeper Ollie Jones the wrong way.

Only six minutes were on the watch and they were 2-0 up as Ryan Dobbins nicked a long ball off a home defender and took a shot at goal. Jones parried and James Bowers picked up the loose ball and fired home.

Dobbins tested Jones again on 22 minutes while at the other end Russ Church, Meacham and Reece Hedges all missed chances.

The second period produced very little in the way of clear-cut chances although Stoke should have scored in the 61st minute but were thwarted by Skyers.

The win means Gala Wilton will be playing in the County League again next season.

Stonehouse Town, who will finish the season in third place, went down 1-0 at home to Hardwicke.

It was a game of missed chances for the home side as Chris Earle burst through on goal but then shot wide.

Hardwicke retaliated and Tobie Webb created a great chance for Kieran Bryce-Ingles, but the opportunity was missed.

A couple of minutes later Stonehouse full-back John Williams found himself clear on goal but he also failed to hit the target.

Earle and Tim Williams had further chances for the home side who were made to pay for their wastefulness in the 65th minute when some great work by Tobie Webb provided Kieran Bryce-Ingles with the chance to slot home at the far post.

Other results: AEK Boco 2 Henbury 2; Hanham Ath 2 Ruardean Hill R 0.
