Former Cheltenham Town players Damian Spencer and Kayode Odejayi set to play in Marvin Brown charity match
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 7th November 2025, 16:00
A Cheltenham Town forward pairing from yesteryear is set to link up in a charity match on Sunday.
Damian Spencer and Kayode Odejayi, who were at Cheltenham together from 2003 to 2007, are playing in the game in memory of Marvin Brown, the one-time Cheltenham loan player who died from a rare form of bile duct cancer at the end of last month at the age of just 42.
The match between a Marvin Brown XI and a Bristol City XI will take place at Twerton Park, the home of Bath City, and will kick-off at 2pm.
Brown, a forward, played 15 games for Cheltenham after joining them on loan from Bristol City in January 2003, scoring twice.
Spencer and Odejayi, 44 and 43 respectively, both enjoyed good careers in the game. Spencer was with Cheltenham from 2002 to 2009, scoring 38 goals in 248 games.
Odejayi, meanwhile, joined Cheltenham a year after Spencer and was there for four years, scoring 34 goals in 174 games.
They were both key players as Cheltenham won promotion to League One in 2005/06 under manager John Ward.
A year later Odejayi, who scored 11 goals in Cheltenham’s promotion campaign, secured a £200,000 move to Barnsley, playing more than 70 games in the Championship and reaching an FA Cup semi-final.
Shortwood United manager Peter Beadle, who played almost 200 games for Bristol City and Bristol Rovers, is also set to play on Sunday along with former Premier League players Jermaine Jenas and Jermaine Pennant.Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
