Gloucester City head to Tuffley Rovers for a pre-season friendly on Friday
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 1st July 2026, 09:00
Tuffley Rovers will host Gloucester City in a pre-season friendly on Friday and Ken Blackburn, the club’s head of football development, is looking forward to it.
He's looking forward to it because it will be a good occasion but also because he is hoping to raise some money for a very good cause.
Blackburn said the Hellenic League Premier Division side are hoping for a crowd of a couple of hundred when the Southern League Premier Division South club come calling.
The game kicks off at 7.30pm and it promises to be a busy evening for Blackburn, who is a former Gloucester City player.
“I’m doing a retro shirt sale, old Gloucester City shirts,” he said. “We had two pre-season friendlies against Gloucester before last season and I made about £500 each time.”
Blackburn is also the driving force behind the Gloucester City Legends football team and he said: “We’re looking to raise about £6,000 to buy a Tuffley Rovers/Gloucester City Legends community bus to support people in the community.
“We’ve raised about £1,100 or £1,200 so far. Supporters like retro shirts.”
And Blackburn likes to see clubs like Tuffley get the chance to play against Gloucester City.
“It helps that Muzzie [first-team manager Neil Mustoe] and I have a good relationship with Gloucester,” he said.
“I get on very well with Gloucester’s chairman Colin Taylor, he’s a lovely guy.
“It also helps that we’ve got good facilities. They’re not going to a park, they’re going to a proper ground.
“We’re on their doorstep and we give good hospitality, it’s good for Gloucester to have good relations with other clubs in the city.
“It’s win-win for both clubs.”
