Hartpury College A-level student Erin Smith and Women’s Football Academy manager Natalie Haigh are celebrating international success with England.

The duo played key roles in the English Colleges Football Association Women’s team’s title triumph at the Roma Caput Tournament in Italy.

England won all four games and kept four clean sheets, notably in a 1-0 success over Welsh Colleges FA in the final, to land the Cacio E’Rosa trophy.

Smith, who is studying A-levels in biology, psychology and physical education, is a member of Hartpury’s junior women’s first-team squad that has reached the semi-finals of the English Schools FA Cup and the quarter-finals of the England Colleges Cup.

Haigh, who was part of the England coaching team at the tournament, said: “It is fantastic that Erin’s abilities have been recognised nationally.

“It is all credit to her in terms of her individual work rate and application throughout the season.

“She has been a great addition to our Women’s Football Programme this year and is another shining example of how the programme is continuing to go from strength to strength.

“Being involved with the English Colleges Football Association’s national team provides an invaluable experience.

“The players have the opportunity to train and play at St George’s Park – the FA’s national football centre – and then to travel abroad and play against teams from other countries.

“The programme offers these young players the opportunity to experience what life as an international level athlete is like.”
