Old Cryptians are set to field four teams on Saturday

The name Marty McFly may not be on any of their teamsheets but it’s fair to say that Old Cryptians have still gone back to the future this weekend.

That’s because the Gloucestershire One club are fielding four – yes, four – senior teams on Saturday afternoon, something that is almost unheard of for a club of their size these days.

It’s something that Old Cryptians, who have been running three senior teams for much of the season, are understandably very proud of and club captain Chad Crosby is absolutely delighted.

“It shows how healthy the club is,” said Crosby, who joined the club as a junior in the mid-noughties. “It’s the first time that I can remember that we’ve had four teams out on a Saturday afternoon.”

The weather may yet intervene, of course, but whether it does or not, the fact that Old Cryptians are able to name four teams shows just how strong the Gloucestershire One pace-setters are at the moment.

“People just want to play,” added Crosby. “We’ve been bolstered by quite a few under-18s and the veterans had a game last weekend which seems to have dusted off a few cobwebs.”

The club’s flagship team continue their push for promotion to Gloucestershire Premier when they host Tewkesbury on Saturday while the 2nds travel to play Avonmouth 2nds.

Old Cryptians 3rds host Cheltenham Civil Service 2nds while the 4ths are set to play Widden Old Boys 2nds.
