Stow-on-the-Wold will have a small army of supporters cheering them on in their Regional 2 Midlands West title showdown at Silhillians on Saturday.

Second-placed Stow trail Silhillians by two points and although both clubs have one game to play after the weekend, the clash at Solihull will very likely be the title decider.

And Stow skipper Jim Wood is in no doubt about the importance of this weekend’s confrontation saying: “It’s the biggest game in the club’s history.”

Stow have been in existence for approaching 150 years - they were founded in 1879 - and Wood continued: “If we go up it will be the highest level the club have ever played.

“If we finish second that will still be our best ever finish.”

Stow have enjoyed great success over the past three years or so – they won the Southern Counties North title in 2021/22 – and they’ve won 15 of their 20 league games in the current campaign.

They’ve also drawn one, with one of their four defeats coming against Silhillians at the start of December.

They were beaten 17-10 and back row Wood, who is hoping there may be as many 50 Stow supporters at Silhillians, said: “They’ve got a good kicking game.

“Like us, they will have a lot of support, I guess it’s just who wants it most on the day.”

Stow’s final league game is at fifth-placed Moseley Oak on Saturday 6th April while Silhillians host bottom-of-the-table Berkswell & Balsall.
