Almost Athletes' new race director Peter Mitchener is delighted that Dave McGrath has succeeded him as the club's chairman
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 8th January 2026, 09:00
Peter Mitchener is relishing his new role at Cheltenham-based Almost Athletes.
The keen runner is the club’s new race director and is looking forward to the annual Linda Franks 5 Mile race, one of the club’s showpiece events, which takes place on Sunday 18th January.
Mitchener, who lives in Cheltenham, has stood down as chairman of Almost Athletes, a position he held for four years, and he said: “I’m enjoying being race director.”
Dave McGrath has succeeded him as chairman and Mitchener said: “The club are in very good hands, I’m really pleased to hand it over to him.
“He’s been at the club for a long, long time and he’s the reason I joined the club because I live next door to him.
“He’s very well known and he’s a very good runner. He’s been on the club’s committee for many years and is one of our coaches.”
The club also organise the Bugatti 10K and Meteor Mile, which both take place in August.Copyright © 2026 The Local Answer Limited.
